Fall Gardening 2006

big mess
When I started clearing my "garden area" I had piled tons of branches I had trimmed from our 17 or so trees earlier in the spring of 2006. At the time I called this my "Wild Area" because it was such a mess.

yikes
We had "Bulk Trash Pick Up Day" where the city will come by and pick up large bulky items such as brush and couches, other larger furniture etc. that the normal trash pick up won't collect.

We piled the branches and as much of the weeds as we could rake into trash bags infront of our house and hoped it wouldn't tip over. The pile was about the size of a van.

cool
We exposed some planted Aloe Vera that was thriving in the mess as well as a rose bush that was doing well in spite of the adversity of the overgrown weeds and piles of branches.

much better
After spraying the weeds with a weed killer, digging up all the weeds and roots I could, and tilling a good portion of the ground I was ready to plant all the plants I had been accumulating on my back patio. I had been anticipating this glorious moment for a long time. I layed out my plants so I could see how they would look. I still have the other half of the "Garden/ Wild Area" to clean weeds out of, but I have half of it planted and looking nice now.

much better
Amelia was more than happy to help me plant the new plants. She loved to fill the empty holes with water and to water the plants once they were in the holes and had a little water retention depression around them.
